Welcome Dear Reader,
"Once upon a time, the tale of the creation of a Rotten Clown was heard not so far from here..."
Let me take you through this journey and share with you this experience...
⎯
⎯
The possibility for me to sculpt a model for the Rotten Factory (RF) range of miniatures was then discussed...
No proper idea in Pawel's mind, just the will to have a sculpture of mine.
How could I say no ?!
So, the natural first step has been to visit the RF website, getting familiar as possible with this universe, imagining and feeling what I would like to add to it.
I loved immediately the idea of the Rotten Circus !
And what better horrific idea than creating an evil and scary clown ? :D
⎯
⎯
After a quick search about 19th century clowns, this idea led to a concrete feeling and design in my mind that I shared with Pawel, keeping in mind the budget we agreed on.
Here is how I described it in first place :
"About the character style :
– He will be considered as « Special Character », not really like a « Champion ».
– He needs to be scary, like the guy you don’t want to be too close even if he is in your team.
He would be a soloist, not because he is selfish but because he feels better being alone. He is not a sharing person.
About the design :
– I imagine a guy a bit fat, not enormous, a bit taller than usual.
It would mean about 33-34 mm at the eyes level (when standing straight).
– He’s got a bit large neck and articulations (wrists, knees, etc…), not huge, but larger than the average.
– I imagine him bold, bare chest with trousers, tall socks, big flat shoes.
– He has a « special face » : he scalped the face of a clown, ears included, and pinned it on his own face. That’s the truly scary part of the character.
This « second » face is carved (line cutting the eyes, the mouth…), with a « red clown nose ».
– He’s got several bubons on his chest and arms, and a big « scar/cut », perpendicular, starting under his neck, descending in his pants.
There are fresh sewings closing the cut all along.
– The trousers are large upper the knees.
– Socks are up to the knees.
– He’s got a butcher chopper in his right hand.
– I was thinking it could be fun if his left hand was cut, replaced with a hook. Would make him even scarier.
About the position :
– Pretty simple, he is moving slowly, one feet behind the other, the chest and face in the direction he’s moving, looking in front of him, being a bit « angry », we can feel anger and that he is dangerous this way."
And... He liked it !

⎯
Pawel was not convinced by the hook and then we agreed on a mutagenic arm.
I designed what I had in mind to get an image to support our discussions about it.
Here are the versions of it (my favorite as reference is the fourth one ;) ) :
⎯

You'll see that there were few other changes/adaptations/new ideas during the sculpting process...
Let's keep that for the other parts of the tale !
Next episode... "The Promising Tale of the Armature".
Prochain épisode... "The Promising Tale of the Armature" (L'histoire Prometteuse de l'Armature).
Oh ! By the way...
Did I tell you about the KickStarter ?!?
This sculpture will be part of the KS celebrating the 5th year anniversary of Rotten Factory !
Find out about this KS & stay tuned to my Blog for more articles ! ;)
MIKH.
